Italian political leaders criticize government security policies
Italian political figures are intensifying their criticism of the current government's security and social policies. During a Democratic Party event in Civitanova, former police chief Franco Gabrielli criticized the rise of General Vannacci, describing him as a symbol of the failure of current government security policies. Gabrielli argued that the opposition must reclaim the topic of security by balancing repression with prevention, rather than relying solely on penal tools.
In Calabria, former Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte of the Five Star Movement also targeted the administration. Speaking in Cerisano, Conte criticized Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for failing to address inflation and tax pressures. He specifically expressed concern regarding the political rise of Vannacci, accusing him of using discriminatory and racist attitudes to incite the population, which Conte suggested is a direct consequence of the government's failure to uphold campaign promises.
