Italian political parties intensify municipal election preparations

Political movements in Italy are intensifying their preparations for upcoming municipal elections, specifically in Frosinone and Milan.

In Frosinone, the Partito Democratico (PD) has launched a listening campaign titled “Frosinone, cosa manca?” (Frosinone, what is missing?). This initiative aims to engage directly with citizens and local neighborhoods to build consensus ahead of next year's elections, signaling a shift from previous political inactivity toward active territorial engagement.

In Milan, tensions have emerged within the center-left coalition. Carlo Calenda and Pina Picierno are advocating for the direct support of Mario Calabresi as a mayoral candidate, arguing against the use of primary elections, which they describe as “autolesionistiche” (self-harming). This stance has met resistance from PD members, such as regional councilor Paolo Romano, who criticized the approach as an attempt to impose candidates without political debate or a clear urban vision.
