Italian politicians decry left‑right ideological battle

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni responded to criticism surrounding a book‑fair initiative that required exhibitors to sign a statement affirming respect for the Constitution, which opponents dubbed a “anti‑fascist licence”. Meloni’s social‑media post attacked the proposal, framing it as censorship.

Separately, regional leader Cateno De Luca of the “Sud chiama Nord” movement announced that on 18 July at Palermo’s Teatro Politeama he will present a “Governo di Liberazione”. De Luca argued that the “war ideologica tra destra e sinistra” distracts from good administration, insisting that policy should be judged on effectiveness, not partisan labels. He described the forthcoming plan as autonomous, civic and progressive, aimed at making Sicily a leading region.

Both figures emphasized moving beyond partisan polarisation, each invoking the need for governance focused on practical results rather than ideological battles.
