Italian politicians meet with CIA farmers to discuss production costs
Lega party representatives Giorgio Maria Bergesio and Laura Cavandoli met with leaders of CIA – Agricoltori Italiani in Rome during a national mobilization at Montecitorio. The discussions focused on the economic pressures facing the agricultural and fishing sectors, specifically rising production costs and high fuel prices.
Lega officials noted that while the government has allocated over 15 billion euros to the sector over three years, international instability and ongoing conflicts continue to drive up energy costs. The party also expressed opposition to potential European Union cuts to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) that could penalize Italian businesses.
In a separate legislative effort, Senator Gian Marco Centinaio (Lega) and Deputy Antonella Forattini (Partito Democratico) have submitted an inquiry to the Ministry of Agriculture. They are seeking to align national regulations with European standards to allow the use of PIWI grape varieties in DOC and DOCG wines. These disease-resistant varieties could reduce the need for phytosanitary treatments, lower fuel consumption, and decrease overall operating costs, promoting more sustainable viticulture.
