Italian port workers confront heat crisis and union clash

The Port Authority of Livorno (AdSP) has begun inspections after a heat wave, demanding that port companies submit updated risk‑assessment documents (DVR) for thermal stress. The authority reported that 15 of 19 firms had not complied and warned that inspectors would visit non‑compliant sites. In response, the transport union USB announced a strike at the Livorno port from 2 to 9 August, citing the lack of effective protective measures.

Separately, a violent confrontation broke out at the Interporto in Bentivoglio, near Bologna, between workers affiliated with the Fit‑Cisl union and members of the Si Cobas union. Three Fit‑Cisl workers were injured and taken to hospital after being attacked with safety shoes, a cutter and other tools. The incident is under police investigation and the injured workers plan to file complaints.
