Italian ports spearhead offshore wind and energy community initiatives

From 7 to 9 October 2026, the Port of Taranto will host the Offshore Wind Revolution conference, organized by the Port Authority of the Mar Ionio and Magellan Circle Italy. The three‑day event will feature networking sessions, plant visits and international conference tracks aimed at strengthening the offshore wind supply chain and positioning Puglia as a Mediterranean hub for marine renewable energy.

On 29 July, a meeting in Rome convened institutions, port authorities, companies and researchers under the auspices of the National Observatory for the Protection of the Sea and the Gestore dei Servizi Energetici (GSE). Participants discussed the creation of Port Energy Communities as a strategic tool for decarbonisation, energy security and the competitiveness of Italian ports, emphasizing shared production, storage and consumption of renewable energy across complex port ecosystems.
