Italian priests honored following deaths and unique final requests
The Diocese of San Marco Argentano-Scalea has announced the death of Father Silvano Caparelli, who passed away at age 64 following a long illness. Born in Roggiano Gravina in 1962, Caparelli was ordained in 1987. His funeral is scheduled for Monday, September 7, at the San Pietro Apostolo parish in Roggiano Gravina.
In separate news, the Diocese of Fano is honoring the unique final wishes of Father Lanfranco Casali. Following his death at age 93, Casali requested that his ashes be transformed into a diamond through a process in Switzerland. The Swiss company Algordanza used carbon extracted from his remains to create a blue-tinted diamond. Casali, who passed away in Osimo, recorded a video explaining that the diamond was intended as a spiritual symbol of the resurrection and a reflection of Christ's light, rather than a display of wealth. He requested the diamond be placed in a sacred location.
