Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni thanks Carabinieri, ties security to freedom

On August 4, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni visited the Salvo D'Acquisto Carabinieri barracks in Rome. She shook hands with the officers and expressed gratitude on behalf of the government and the Italian people.

Meloni said that “freedom does not exist without security,” stressing that the safety provided by the Carabinieri allows citizens to move freely in public spaces. She also highlighted that the officers receive inadequate pay despite the risks and possible injuries they face while protecting infrastructure and public order.
