Italian prison police face health emergency and injuries in two prison incidents
In Parma, a Polizia Penitenziaria officer suffered a medical emergency during his shift and was taken to hospital. The prison police union linked the incident to the lack of a proper lunch break and called for an investigation into work organization at the Burla prison.
In Avellino, three prison police officers were injured after detainees attacked them while the staff seized two illegal smartphones. The officers received treatment and were released. The union highlighted the presence of contraband phones, chronic staff shortages, extreme heat and water supply problems as factors endangering safety and demanding urgent administrative action.
