Italian Prison Police seize phones in San Severo and Turin prisons

The Polizia Penitenziaria confiscated a total of about ten mobile phones during targeted inspections at the San Severo prison in the past two weeks, according to Commissario Capo Rosa Pagano. Union representative Gennaro Ricci praised the operation but warned that Italian prisons are increasingly used as hubs for drug and phone smuggling, enabling inmates to direct criminal activities from inside.

In a separate raid at the Turin Casa Circondariale Lorusso e Cutugno, officers seized two smartphones from foreign detainees, one of Moroccan nationality. Union leaders Donato Capece and Vicente Santilli highlighted the importance of such seizures for internal security and called for more staff and technological tools to combat contraband.
