Italian professionals address urban greenery and climate change
Professional organizations in Italy are organizing meetings to address the evolving role of urban greenery and landscaping in the face of climate change.
In Monferrato, the National Meeting of Flowering Municipalities, promoted by Asproflor, will take place from October 2 to 4. The event includes a 'World Café' session where mayors, technicians, and administrators will discuss concrete proposals regarding biodiversity, water management, and urban heat. Research from the MIRIFICUS project, coordinated by CNR-IBE, suggests that increasing trees and natural surfaces can reduce urban surface temperatures by over 4°C during peak heat hours, with daily reductions of approximately 2-2.2°C.
Additionally, the Italian Association of Green Professionals (AIPV) will host a conference in Brescia on October 16. This event focuses on the future of the gardening profession, examining how technological innovation, sustainable management of peri-urban areas, and climate change challenges are reshaping the skills required for the sector.
