Italian prosecutor investigates doctor over alleged migrant repatriation scheme
Italian authorities in Ravenna are investigating infectious disease specialist Nicola Cocco for allegedly coordinating a network aimed at issuing false medical certificates. The investigation suggests these documents were used to prevent the repatriation of irregular migrants by obstructing their transfer to detention centers (CPR).
During the investigation, digital communications from Cocco’s mobile device were seized, which included messages from several political figures, including Senator Ilaria Cucchi and AVS Deputy Francesca Ghirra. Ghirra has stated she has nothing to hide but has raised concerns regarding parliamentary immunity and the constitutional requirements for accessing a deputy's communications.
The probe has also identified a group known as ‘NoCprSalute,’ which investigators believe may have functioned as a network for distributing information or materials to doctors participating in the campaign against migrant repatriation.
