Italian prosecutors clean up illegal waste dumps in Tuscany and Marche

Prosecutors in Prato, Tuscany, removed about 30 tonnes of plastic waste that had been illegally buried on a 2,800‑square‑metre agricultural plot near Tavola. The cleanup, carried out after a citizen’s tip, involved twelve truck trips to authorized disposal centres and the seizure of two land plots. Two suspects – an Indian landowner and an Italian employee – have been charged with unauthorized disposal of special waste, with the first court hearing scheduled for 2 November 2028.

In the nearby Marche region, authorities are responding to a separate illegal dumping incident on Via Gaiano in Osimo. Environmental group Legambiente has called for swift identification of those responsible, emphasizing the need for active technological monitoring, stricter enforcement under updated waste‑management penalties, and community education to prevent further littering.
