Italian prosecutors deem Simona Cinà's pool death accidental, seek case closure

Simona Cinà, a 20‑year‑old volleyball player from Palermo, was found dead on the bottom of a pool at a villa in Bagheria, province of Palermo, during the night of 1‑2 August 2025. The Prosecutor’s Office of Termini Imerese, led by Angelo Vittorio Cavallo, filed a request to archive the investigation, stating that the autopsy showed no signs of violence, injuries, or sexual assault.

Toxicology tests detected no drugs or medication but revealed a high blood‑alcohol concentration of about 2.94 g/L. Witnesses reported that Cinà had consumed several alcoholic drinks at the graduation party, including at least three full cocktails and partially seven others. More than thirty guests were present at the villa, and investigators argued that any violent struggle would have been noticed. The family, represented by lawyer Antonio Ingroia, had suggested possible homicide, but prosecutors concluded the death was an accidental drowning and asked to close the case.
