Italian prosecutors open defamation probe into Garlasco case lawyer and media figures

The Milan public prosecutor's office has opened a criminal investigation for defamation against attorney Antonio De Rensis, journalist Alessandro De Giuseppe (a reporter for the TV program “Le Iene”) and former Carabinieri marshal Francesco Marchetto. The probe follows a complaint filed by Stefania Cappa, the cousin of Chiara Poggi, who was murdered in Garlasco in 2007. Authorities allege that the three individuals engaged in incitement to delict, aggravated defamation and possibly procedural fraud, citing recordings and other evidence presented by the Cappa family.

The investigation adds to earlier legal actions linked to the Garlasco murder case, which has seen multiple inquiries into alleged campaigns to discredit the Cappa family. Prosecutors have placed the three suspects on the register of investigated persons while the inquiry continues.
