Italian public administration officials can work after retirement

Italian jurisprudence has clarified the regulations regarding public administration officials continuing to hold paid positions after reaching retirement age. Under current law, reaching the age limit does not automatically disqualify managers from state contracts.

The prohibition on receiving paid assignments only takes effect once a worker formally applies for and begins receiving their pension from INPS. Professionals who choose to defer their pension payments maintain the right to enter into paid contracts with state entities. This ruling aims to prevent age-based discrimination while adhering to strict accounting norms and the strategic goals of the legislature, which include managing state expenditures and encouraging generational turnover in public offices.
