Italian Red Cross promotes disaster prevention amid climate crisis
The Italian Red Cross is emphasizing the importance of disaster risk prevention in response to the increasing frequency of extreme weather events such as floods, earthquakes, and heatwaves. Rosario Valastro, the national president of the Italian Red Cross, stated that preparing the population through awareness and adaptation is essential to reducing the impact of natural calamities on communities.
To promote these efforts, an event titled ‘A prova di rischio – Insegnare e Comunicare la Riduzione del Rischio di Disastri nella crisi climatica’ is scheduled for October 17 in Milan at the National Museum of Science. The event focuses on the role of information and communication in disaster risk reduction during the climate crisis.
In a related movement, a climate strike is organized for October 16 in Rome. Protesters are calling for environmental and social justice, criticizing national and supranational policies regarding resource extraction and urban development that reduce green spaces and exacerbate social inequalities.
