Italian Region of Marche Joins European Coastal Climate Resilience Manifesto
The Marche region of Italy, which holds the vice‑presidency of the Climate Working Group of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions of Europe (CPMR), has signed the “Manifesto to Strengthen Climate Resilience and Adaptation of Maritime Regions”. The manifesto, promoted at Ecomondo 2025, calls on national and EU authorities to place coastal areas at the centre of climate‑adaptation strategies.
The document outlines four priorities: stronger climate governance at all levels, integration of resilience into territorial and development policies, adequate financing for coastal protection, and promotion of coastal regeneration through innovation and strategic planning. Marche, with more than 170 km of coastline, faces increasing erosion, storm surges, sea‑level rise and extreme weather. Environment Assessor Tiziano Consoli said the signing “represents a further step in making the region more resilient to climate impacts”. He also noted that the region presented its sustainable development model and climate‑adaptation plan at the UN High‑Level Political Forum in New York, urging concrete, measurable actions.
