Italian regional initiatives promote traditional craftsmanship
In Pistoia, a new social knitting mill project has been launched to provide training and employment for unemployed women. Promoted by Rifò and the Manusa Social Cooperative, the initiative aims to preserve rare artisanal skills such as mending and reweaving while fostering economic autonomy for nine participants.
The project connects the textile districts of Pistoia and Prato, aiming to maintain artisanal heritage and ensure supply chain traceability. Local officials have described the model as a way to bridge the gap between the business sector, social cooperatives, and social services.
In Sassari, the municipality has signed a collaboration pact with a network of artisans, including the cultural association ‘Tramandando’, Costanzo Salis, and Ebanisteria Meccanica. The agreement seeks to revitalize the historic city center by encouraging the return of traditional workshops, such as weaving, construction, and carpentry, to foster community cohesion and socio-economic regeneration.
