Italian regional leaders demand job protections in industrial shifts
Regional leaders in Italy are calling for formal guarantees to protect employment and industrial continuity amidst significant economic transitions.
In Abruzzo, President Marco Marsilio has formally written to the Director General of Medio Credito Centrale, Ferruccio Ferranti, seeking protections for workers following the potential sale of Banca del Mezzogiorno. Marsilio emphasized the need to preserve local branches in provinces such as Teramo and Pescara to support local businesses and prevent workforce contraction.
Simultaneously, officials from the Piedmont and Liguria regions have formed a joint coalition to address the future of the ex-Ilva plants. Piedmont President Alberto Cirio and regional representatives are advocating for the industrial unity of the group while demanding that plants in Novi Ligure, Racconigi, and Genoa be permitted to source materials from suppliers outside of Taranto. The regional leaders are also requesting that social safety nets and employment protections be extended to workers in the supply chain within their territories.
