Italian regions allocate funds to combat coastal erosion

Regional authorities in Italy have announced significant funding to mitigate coastal erosion and hydrogeological instability.

In Basilicata, a tender has been published for the design and implementation of coastal defense works in the Metapontino area. The project, valued at 11 million euros, aims to restore the functionality of the shoreline defense system. The tender uses an integrated contract model, combining executive design and construction, with bids due by November 27.

In Puglia, regional leadership met with provincial presidents to discuss the allocation of 26.4 million euros dedicated to securing the upper coast. These funds, part of the PR Puglia FESR-FSE+ 2021-2027 program, are intended to protect residents, infrastructure, productive activities, and natural habitats from the increasing risks posed by climate change and intense natural phenomena.
