Italian regions Alto Lazio and Umbria show modest Q2 2026 business growth

In the second quarter of 2026 the Alto Lazio area recorded a slow but positive consolidation. In the provinces of Rieti and Viterbo the enterprise stock grew by 0.39% and 0.34% respectively, driven by a shift toward service activities and a rise in capital‑company registrations. Viterbo saw capital companies increase by 0.90% (117 new registrations, 38 cessations) to a total of 8,864, while Rieti posted a 1.05% rise (50 registrations, 11 cessations) reaching 3,736 firms. Nationally the Italian business register added 32,709 enterprises in the same period.

Umbria also posted a positive quarterly balance, with 1,055 new registrations offset by 708 closures, yielding a net gain of 347 enterprises and a total stock of 89,186. The regional growth rate of 0.39% lagged the national average of 0.56%. Terni led with a 0.50% increase (283 new firms, 177 closures) and Perugia contributed the largest absolute gain but only a 0.35% rise. The artisan sector added 55 units, growing 0.29%, yet remains below the national artisan growth rate. Despite the quarterly improvement, Umbria is still down 1,122 enterprises year‑on‑year, a 1.2% decline.
