Italian regions celebrate traditional autumn Ottobrata festivals
Various Italian regions are celebrating the tradition of the ‘Ottobrata,’ local festivals rooted in autumn festivities and historical harvest celebrations.
In Santo Stefano in Aspromonte, the event focuses on mountain traditions and local gastronomy. The celebration features food stalls offering seasonal products such as roasted chestnuts, cheeses, cured meats, and mushrooms. The program includes live music from Cosimo Papandrea and a DJ set by Joshua Giglio to celebrate Calabrian folk music and local culture.
In Rome, the Testaccio district is hosting the ‘Ottobrata Testaccina,’ a free community event supported by the Municipio Roma I Centro. This tradition commemorates the historical end-of-harvest celebrations that have taken place in the area since the 17th century. The day includes sports activities for children, cultural walks, the ‘Testaccio in Rima’ Roman poetry festival, tango performances, and a communal social dinner.
