Italian regions implement student transport subsidies and school safety measures
Several Italian regions are implementing new measures to support student mobility and school safety for the 2026/2027 academic year.
In Molise, the regional government has introduced tariff benefits for students aged 11 to 26. Managed via the ‘Ti Muovi’ platform, the system allows for partial or total reimbursement of extra-urban bus subscriptions based on ISEE levels. The measure also provides free regional transport for workers with disabilities. Similarly, Puglia has allocated 8 million euros to provide a 50% discount on monthly subscriptions for commuting students from low-income families (ISEE up to 13,000 euros, or 15,748.78 euros for large families). Notably, Puglia has removed academic merit as a requirement for this bonus and expanded coverage to include higher education institutes like academies and conservatories.
In Abruzzo, regional authorities confirmed that student transport discounts remain active without obstacles. Meanwhile, in the Marche region, school enrollment figures show a decline due to demographic trends, despite high educational quality.
Regarding safety and infrastructure, the Polizia di Stato is increasing patrols near schools to prevent bullying and drug dealing. In Sorrento, a 1.5 million euro three-year maintenance plan has been approved to ensure the structural safety of public buildings and schools.
