Italian Regions Increase Childcare Funding and Nursery Places

The Liguria regional government granted €500,000 to its municipalities to keep summer day‑care centres ("Nidi Estivi") open throughout July and August, ensuring thousands of places in both public and private facilities. Regional councilor Rocco Invernizzi said the measure supports families, encourages female employment and helps balance work and life during the tourist season.

In the Tuscan municipality of Castel San Pietro, officials added 21 new nursery slots – 12 in municipal nurseries, 8 in a convent‑run centre and 1 in a private school – after a waiting list of 37 children shrank to just four. The town advanced €85,536 from its own budget to fund the expansion and related fee reductions for families.
