Italian regions introduce new gender equality and tourism laws
The Tuscany Region has announced a new framework law titled ‘Toscana delle donne’ (Tuscany of Women) to unify gender equality policies. Proposed by Regional Councilor Cristina Manetti, the law aims to consolidate existing regulations regarding gender citizenship and violence prevention into a single, organic framework. The new legislation will expand regional efforts to include education, culture, sport, and awareness-raising, ensuring that gender equality becomes a transversal responsibility across all regional departments.
In Sicily, the regional government has approved a bill to reform the tourism sector, updating regulations that date back to a 1936 royal decree. The proposed law targets travel agencies and tour operators, introducing stricter sanctions for unauthorized operations and establishing a regional anti-abusivism council involving law enforcement. Regional Tourism Councilor Elvira Amata stated the reform aims to protect travelers and modernize rules for both traditional and online agencies to better manage the island’s tourism industry.
