Italian regions launch infrastructure initiatives: Tuscany's new public road firm and Piacenza's Val d'Aveto landslide‑s

The Tuscany regional government, led by President Eugenio Giani, has approved the creation of Toscana Strade, a fully public company tasked with managing the Fi‑Pi‑Li super‑highway that links Florence, Pisa and Livorno. The Court of Auditors validated the regional council’s decision, and the firm will oversee ordinary and extraordinary maintenance, lane widening and the construction of emergency lanes. An initial 50 million euros will fund two priority projects: widening the section between Scandicci and Signa and improving the stretch from Ponsacco to the Pisa‑Livorno junction. The region is also evaluating a toll for heavy‑goods vehicles to balance usage of the A11 and A12 motorways.

In the province of Piacenza, President Monica Patelli and local officials inspected Provincial Road 586R in the Val d'Aveto area after a severe landslide near the Boschi dam in November 2025. The road, reopened on 23 June, was restored with a 300 thousand‑euro intervention funded by regional civil‑protection, including flexible retaining structures, drainage works and resurfacing. Traffic currently operates under a one‑way alternating system controlled by signals. Authorities are planning a permanent safety solution and have requested additional funding to address ongoing hydro‑geological risks in the region.
