Italian regions launch remediation of ex‑Frattina site and development plan for the Tanagro river

The Emilia‑Romagna region announced a €975,000 intervention to partially remediate the former industrial waste dump known as ex‑Frattina in Castelvetro. Critics say the work, which includes installing a clay capping and securing the site, is only a temporary containment measure funded through an emergency €175,000 allocation, and does not fully resolve the long‑standing contamination.

In Campania, the Vallo di Diano and Tanagro consortium approved a comprehensive plan to turn the Tanagro river into a development engine for the valley. The plan calls for hydraulic safety works, sediment removal, bank reinforcement, and the creation of a bike path along the riverbanks. Officials highlight the project’s potential to improve flood protection, enhance the landscape, and generate new recreational and economic opportunities for local communities.
