Italian regions report road deaths and launch safety observatories
In the Marca region of Treviso, a provincial road‑safety conference presented data for the first half of 2026 showing 25 traffic‑related fatalities between January and June. The most frequent cause was loss of control on straight stretches (40%), and 52% of the deadly crashes occurred on Friday‑Saturday‑Sunday. Nearly half of the victims were vulnerable users: pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and young riders.
The municipality of Benevento announced the creation of an Urban and Road Safety Observatory under its municipal police. The observatory will collect, analyse and publish data on traffic incidents, police checks and citizen reports, aiming to improve planning, allocate resources more efficiently and support applications for regional, national and EU funding, while respecting privacy regulations.
