Italian regions tweak water revenue shares and monitor reserves as heat records persist

The Tuscany regional government reported that, despite a series of heat waves with temperatures well above the 1991‑2020 average, the region's water reserves remain satisfactory. Officials attribute the positive outlook to abundant winter and early‑spring precipitation and to stable reservoir levels, while urging citizens and businesses to continue conserving water.

In Basilicata, the regional council approved a new rule that will raise the share of water‑concession fees allocated to municipalities to 50% by 2029. The increase will be phased in, with 30% of fees going to towns in 2027, 40% in 2028, and the full 50% thereafter. The law also introduces a transparent reporting system for concession volumes and payments, replacing the transitional regime introduced in 2020.
