Italian religious groups hold events for environmental stewardship
Religious communities in Italy have concluded various initiatives dedicated to the ‘Time of Creation,’ focusing on environmental stewardship and the teachings of Saint Francis.
In Tagliavia, the Archdiocese of Monreale organized four days of engagement centered on water as a common good and territory protection against fires. The event involved local students and institutional representatives from the Regional Civil Protection, the Palermo Provincial Health Authority, and the Fire Department. Participants also engaged in guided excursions to explore the natural landscape of Ficuzza.
In Antignano, the fifth edition of the ‘Prayer for the Earth’ was held to mark the conclusion of the Month of Creation. The event integrated scientific reflection with poetry and music, drawing on themes from the encyclical Laudato Si’. Educational efforts included the screening of the documentary ‘The Changing Land’ to help teachers address human-induced climate change with students.
