Italian religious leaders address pastoral renewal and AI in education

Religious leaders and educators in Italy are addressing modern challenges through pastoral renewal and digital integration. The Dioceses of Velletri-Segni and Frascati have launched a new initiative for Christian Initiation. This program aims to shift the role of catechists from mere instructors of doctrine to “companions on a journey,” focusing on accompaniment and listening rather than just teaching a curriculum.

In a separate educational forum, Bishop Livio Corazza met with Catholic school teachers to discuss the impact of artificial intelligence. Emphasizing the need to keep the human person at the center of education, the discussion highlighted that technology should serve as an ally for inclusion and personalized learning rather than a replacement for human connection. Participants proposed the creation of a “Decalogue on AI” to guide its use in schools, stressing the importance of digital literacy for educators to prevent “soulless efficientism.”
