Italian Republic faces public trial in San Mauro Pascoli on Aug 10

The "Processo alla Repubblica Italiana" is a public mock trial organized by the cultural association Sammauroindustria. It will take place on 10 August at Villa Torlonia in the town of San Mauro Pascoli, Forlì‑Cesena, with the verdict delivered by the audience using hand‑shovels.

The trial pits two pairs of university historians against each other: Davide Conti (Sapienza University) and Marco Valbruzzi (University of Napoli Federico II) act as prosecutors, while Roberto Balzani (University of Bologna) and Maurizio Ridolfi (University of Tuscia) defend the Republic. Gianfranco Miro Gori, founder of the event and president of the tribunal, frames the central question: "Has the Italian Republic, since the anti‑fascist revolution and the 1946 founding, kept the promises made by its founders?" Local officials, including Mayor Moris Guidi and Culture Assessor Lisa Maroni, attended the opening.
