Rimini’s Marvelli Underground Parking Faces Safety Glitches and Car Traps

The new Marvelli underground garage in Rimini, opened in July with 320 spaces and a cost of over €12 million, quickly sold out but has been plagued by repeated safety system failures. Within days of its inauguration, false gas alarms and smoke from a vehicle's hood triggered automatic barriers, leaving cars stranded on both underground levels. Technicians have been called to clear the incidents, and municipal officials report that sensor sensitivities are being adjusted to prevent further false triggers caused by heat, humidity, and vehicle emissions. A permanent police presence has been established to assist motorists while the system is fine‑tuned.

The garage, funded by the city as part of a broader waterfront redevelopment, was intended to ease parking shortages in Marina Centro. Despite the operational setbacks, authorities say the structure remains safe and will continue to serve drivers once the alarm issues are resolved.
