Italian retailers recall fresh eggs over Salmonella risk

Fresh eggs marketed under the Aia and Selex brands have been voluntarily withdrawn in Italy after the producer, Agricola Tre Valli Società Cooperativa, detected the presence of Salmonella enteritidis in the lot identified as 1IT040VR006 (expiry 04/08/2026). The recall, announced by major supermarket chains including Coop, Iper and Mercatò, applies to specific packages sold in selected stores in Umbria and Piemonte. Consumers who purchased the affected 4‑egg (330 g) and 6‑egg (220 g) packs are advised not to eat the eggs and to return them to the point of sale for replacement.

Salmonella enteritidis is a common cause of food‑borne illness in Italy, often linked to raw or insufficiently cooked eggs and egg‑based products. Health authorities emphasize that symptoms are usually mild to moderate but the bacterium can survive on surfaces and in food if proper cooking temperatures are not applied. The recall aims to prevent potential gastrointestinal infections and to restore consumer confidence in the egg supply chain.
