Italian rugby strengthens regional ties and grassroots development

The Italian national rugby team is strengthening its presence and grassroots connections across Italy. In Friuli Venezia Giulia, the region is hosting the Nations Championship 2026 match between Italy and Fiji on November 21 at the Friuli stadium in Udine. Regional Vice Governor Mario Anzil highlighted the importance of these international events for local promotion and youth engagement, noting significant investments in sports infrastructure, including 220,000 euros for Pasian di Prato and 140,000 euros for Rugby Udine.

Simultaneously, Italian men's head coach Gonzalo Quesada conducted a tour of Sardinia to engage with local rugby clubs. During a visit to Olbia, Quesada met with under-14 and under-16 players, emphasizing his belief that local clubs are the essential foundation for the sport's growth and the transmission of its values. This initiative, supported by the Italian Rugby Federation, aims to foster continuity and development within the national rugby community.
