Italian school communities mourn passing of two prominent principals

Two Italian educational communities are mourning the loss of long-serving school principals.

In Avola, the II Istituto comprensivo ‘G. Bianca-Vittorini’ is grieving the death of Lucia Barbiera. Born in 1968, Barbiera was recognized for her commitment to social inclusion and her efforts to combat school dropout rates through various educational projects. The school community described her as an ‘excellent principal’ and a ‘great woman’ who served as a vital educational and social reference point for the territory.

In Cesena, the Liceo Righi is mourning the sudden passing of former principal Dea Campana. Campana served as the head of the institute from 2005 to 2018. The school noted that her death follows the recent passing of principal Mario Mercuriali on October 1. The institution remembered Campana for her humanity, competence, and the foundational identity she helped build through educational experimentation during her tenure.
