Italian school unions address teacher rights and ATA staff exclusions
Italian education unions are addressing various labor issues and grievances affecting school personnel. FeNSIR (Federazione Nuovi Sindacati Istruzione e Ricerca) has announced free legal assistance for teaching and ATA staff for the 2026-2027 academic year. This legal support covers matters such as the 'Carta del Docente', professional compensation, contract renewals, and unused leave.
FeNSIR is also hosting an online session to clarify regulations regarding mandatory training for teachers and ATA staff, specifically addressing the limits of collegial activities and the relationship between training and paid working hours.
Simultaneously, FederATA, the union representing administrative, technical, and auxiliary (ATA) staff, has protested a political proposal to introduce a fourteenth monthly salary starting in 2028. The proposal is reportedly limited to teachers, nurses, and law enforcement, excluding ATA workers. FederATA argues this exclusion ignores the essential role of administrative and technical staff in keeping schools operational and continues a pattern of marginalization dating back to the 2015 'Buona Scuola' law.
