Italian schools report student misconduct and discrimination allegations
Two separate incidents of student misconduct and conflict have been reported in Italian schools.
In Piove di Sacco, a student association has alleged discrimination at the De Nicola Institute. The group claims a vice-principal reprimanded students for speaking Arabic and told them to return to their country if they did not stop. However, the school principal, Marco Burattin, defended the vice-principal, stating the intervention was professional and aimed at enforcing classroom rules during a noisy period, rather than being offensive.
In Pomezia, a high school teacher was hospitalized after being struck by stones thrown by students. The incident occurred after the teacher attempted to enforce the legal ban on smoking within the school. The teacher, a 40-year-old woman, received a 14-day medical prognosis. The school's trade union (RSU) condemned the act as criminal behavior and called for strict sanctions against those responsible to protect the dignity of school staff.
