Italian schools take students on environmental field trips in Sicily and Lazio

Students from the Gliaca branch of the Istituto Comprensivo Anna Rita Sidoti in Piraino, Sicily, visited Lake Maulazzo in the Nebrodi Park as part of the regional "Scuole aperte al territorio" programme. The excursion, organized by school director Maria La Rosa and teachers Marzia Rita Mancuso and Ilenia Lionello, included all pupils, including those with motor disabilities, and focused on local biodiversity, forest ecosystems and conservation awareness. The visit was welcomed by park president Domenico Barbuzza and guided by Antonio Costanzo.

In a separate initiative, primary‑school pupils from the Istituto Comprensivo of San Cesareo travelled to the waste‑treatment and recycling plant in Pomezia, Lazio, on World Environment Day. The trip, promoted by the municipal administration, was led by environment assessor Stefano Sabbatucci, education assessor Emanuela Ricchezza and environmental office officer Fabio Ferracci. Students observed the sorting, processing and recovery of waste materials, learning about recycling, circular‑economy principles and the role of waste management in environmental protection.
