Italian scientific community to host major chemistry and natural products research events

The Società Chimica Italiana (SCI) will host an event titled “Roma Capitale della Chimica Italiana” on November 23, 2026, at the National Research Council in Rome. The initiative aims to highlight the strategic role of chemistry in scientific progress, health, and economic development, with a specific focus on the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical sectors.

The program includes keynote lectures from Dr. Marcello Allegretti of Dompé Farmaceutici on synthetic pharmaceutical chemistry and Professor Ettore Novellino from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore on nutraceutical chemistry.

Additionally, Sapienza Università di Roma will host the second National Meeting on the Italian Natural Products Collection on December 16-17, 2026. This project aims to create a national chemotheque by connecting molecular collections and expertise from 13 research groups. The collection currently includes approximately 1,300 compounds derived from plants, fungi, lichens, bacteria, and marine organisms, as well as agro-food waste, to foster a coordinated national research infrastructure.
