Italian Senate presents digitalization project for 1927 mafia trial

The Italian Senate hosted a presentation for a new project aimed at digitalizing the records of the 1927-1928 “ANDALORO Nicolò + 163” trial. This proceeding, held before the Court of Assizes of Termini Imerese, is recognized as the first major anti-mafia mass trial in Italian judicial history due to the number of defendants and the severity of the crimes.

The initiative, presented by Senator Raoul Russo, seeks to preserve historical memory and promote legality by making significant judicial documents from the 1920s to the 1960s accessible. The project is a collaboration between the Bar Association of Termini Imerese, the Criminal Chamber of Termini Imerese, and the State Archives of Palermo.

The historical investigation was part of the operations led by the “Iron Prefect,” Cesare Mori, who targeted high-ranking mafia families in the Madonìa region. Following the completion of the Andaloro case, the digitalization efforts will move on to files regarding the Lisuzzo gang and the Ortoleva trial.
