Italian Senate President Ignazio La Russa warns of hidden cover‑ups in recent violence

Senate President Ignazio La Russa said there are both obvious and hidden cover‑ups behind recent episodes of violence in Italy. Speaking to journalist Augusto Minzolini in Viareggio during the "L'Estate del Principe" cultural programme, La Russa referred to clashes at a TAV construction site and earlier disturbances in Bologna.

He criticized the mayor of Bologna for allowing a peaceful demonstration that, in his view, became a cover for violent acts, and warned that extremist groups might try to strain the government and police. While asserting that terrorism has been defeated, La Russa stressed that violence remains a concern and called for vigilance against both visible and covert forms of support for it.
