Rome Antitrust fines Bird, Dott and Lime €2.675 million for blocking free rides
Italy’s Competition Authority (Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato) imposed a total fine of €2.675 million on the micromobility operators Bird, Dott and Lime. The penalty covers the 2023‑2026 service period and stems from the companies’ failure to provide the free‑ride “Pass” packages promised to annual Metrebus public‑transport subscribers in Rome. The Authority found that the operators used inadequate procedures, causing long waiting times for pass activation and, in Bird’s case, arbitrarily deactivating user accounts without notice.
The sanction aims to protect consumers and ensure that integrated mobility services linked to the Metrebus ticket are delivered as contracted, reinforcing clearer processes and accountability for shared‑scooter and e‑bike providers in the capital.
