Italian Sports Authority Refers Giovanni Malagò Ineligibility Inquiry to Anti‑Corruption Agency

The CONI’s Collegio di Garanzia dello Sport announced it cannot rule on the alleged ineligibility of Giovanni Malagò in the upcoming FIGC presidential election, stating the matter falls outside its competence. The collegiate referred the case to the National Anti‑Corruption Authority (ANAC) for a formal opinion.

Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi, who requested the assessment, expressed hope that ANAC will issue its opinion before the scheduled election on 22 June. CONI president Luciano Buonfiglio warned that ANAC investigations typically require more time and doubted a decision could be reached before the vote. The election to choose the new head of Italian football will proceed on the set date, pending any further rulings from ANAC.
