Italian sports federation postpones Statute assembly to spring
The Federal Council has decided to postpone the extraordinary assembly for the modification of the Statute, originally scheduled for October 24, 2026, until next spring.
The delay is intended to allow for the definition of new regulations regarding sports justice, which are currently being developed by the Italian Government and the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI). The new framework must also incorporate principles established by recent rulings from the Court of Justice of the European Union, specifically concerning the independence, autonomy, and impartiality of judicial bodies.
Officials stated that proceeding with the approval of the new Statute now would risk requiring further immediate amendments once the new regulatory interventions and CONI guidelines are finalized. The postponement aims to ensure the resulting document is stable, comprehensive, and capable of serving as a long-term foundation for federal regulations, including the Justice Regulation.
