Italian sports journalist Luca Esposito found murdered and burned in Eboli
Luigi Esposito, 53, known professionally as Luca, was a sports journalist and director of the football‑focused web portal Tutto Salernitana. On the night of 18 July 2026 his body was discovered in a rural field near the village of Cioffi, outside Eboli in the province of Salerno. Investigators say he was shot and his corpse set alight, likely to conceal evidence.
The car he owned was found close to the scene, helping police confirm his identity. The investigation is being led by the Carabinieri of Eboli and Salerno, under the supervision of prosecutor Raffaele Cantone. An autopsy was scheduled for 21 July to determine the exact cause of death and the number of gunshots.
Esposito had received the AIC Special Award in November 2025 for his coverage of the local team Salernitana. The regional environmental agency Arpa Campania issued a statement denying any employment relationship with him, adding a new line of inquiry. No motive or suspect has been identified, and authorities are examining personal, professional and possible passion‑related angles.
