Italian Sports Minister Calls for Review of FIGC President Malagò's Eligibility

Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi, speaking at the World Grand Prix Taekwondo in Rome, said the National Anti‑Corruption Authority (ANAC) and the CONI College of Guarantees should provide a formal opinion on the alleged "pantouflage" violation involving Giovanni Malagò, who is a candidate for the presidency of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC). The request follows a parliamentary inquiry by Senator Roberto Marti and sets a deadline of 15 June, just a week before the FIGC election scheduled for 22 June. The issue hinges on Italy's Severino law, which bars former public officials from taking private‑sector positions where they previously exercised regulatory control, potentially affecting the legitimacy of the FIGC leadership.

Malagò, the former CONI president, has said he is confident in his legal counsel. The outcome of the ANAC and CONI review could clear any doubts about his eligibility and influence the upcoming FIGC election, which is seen as crucial for the governance of Italian football.
