Catanzaro stadium delays cause financial losses and political tension

The ongoing renovation of the Nicola Ceravolo stadium in Catanzaro has led to significant delays, causing US Catanzaro to report a loss of approximately one million euros in ticket and subscription revenue. The delay in completing the Curva Ovest (formerly Capraro) has forced the club to play home matches away from the city and has limited stadium capacity.

Local administration, led by Mayor Nicola Fiorita, has faced criticism from political opponents and club management regarding the lack of a certain timeline for completion. While the Mayor aims to complete the sector foundations by late November, the club's general manager, Nicola Bignotti, has called for clarity following missed deadlines. The Lega Serie B is expected to inspect the facility to verify conditions and television visibility.

In contrast to the situation in Catanzaro, other Italian sports facilities are seeing progress. The Stadio Lorenzon in Rende is reopening to the public with a capacity of 1,511 spectators following PNRR-funded renovations. Additionally, the Gianni Vassallo swimming stadium in Bogliasco is undergoing reconstruction with a planned opening in early 2027.
