Sulmona and Cosenza police operations target drug trafficking and mafia-style crime

Italian law enforcement agencies have conducted major operations targeting organized crime in Sulmona and Cosenza. In Sulmona, the Metamorfosi investigation has led to 20 precautionary measures against a suspected criminal group accused of using mafia methods. The group allegedly established a cocaine monopoly in the Valle Peligna area, with an estimated monthly turnover of 180,000 to 200,000 euros. Investigators claim a former Sicilian mafia convict allied with a local group, establishing links with Albanian and Camorra networks to manage drug distribution, extortion, and money laundering.

In Cosenza, Carabinieri conducted a blitz resulting in five individuals facing precautionary measures for alleged drug trafficking. The investigation, which utilized telephone, electronic, and environmental interceptions, targets the sale of marijuana, hashish, and cocaine. One suspect was transferred to prison, while three others were placed under house arrest.

Additionally, a nationwide operation by the Polizia di Stato against youth criminality resulted in the arrest of 575 adults and 69 minors across various Italian provinces.
